I removed Malware (Guardian XP). It created an issue where no application with an .exe extension will start. I got an error message that stated there was no application associated with that program. Foolishly, I went to Folders and tried to see if the exe file there was not associated somehow. It was not in the list. I created a new one, and was warned that one already existed (although I did not see it in the listing). Throwing caution to the wind, I created new (i.e. overwrote). Now nothing works except Mail and Explorer.
How can I restore the association of exe for applications?
Further observations - all Start Menu items won't work, and their icons turned into the generic Windows one.
